Decatur
Located 10 miles from Downtown Atlanta, Decatur is located in Dekalb County, just west of Atlanta.
Named for U.S. Naval hero Stephen Decatur in 1823, Decatur is an area known for its small-town feel and tree-lined streets, which are filled with boutiques, restaurants, bars, coffee shops and more. The center, Decatur Square, is located next to the Old Courthouse. Major crossroads are West Ponce de Leon Avenue, Clairmont Road, and Church Street. Decatur is home to Agnes Scott College, an all female liberal arts school, and it is reported that students in this school district score higher than national and state student averages on standardized tests. The self-contained Decatur has a small town feel with brick storefronts and a historic courthouse.
