Summerhill
Summerhill is located north of Peoplestown, east of Mechanicsvile, directly south of Downtown Atlanta, and west of Grant Park.
Once home to celebrities such as Evander Holyfield and Gladys Knight, Summerhill has seen a spur of growth since its revitalization in the early 1990's. Before the construction of Interstate 20 and The Atlanta Fulton County Stadium, Summerhill had a population of more than 20,000 residents. By the early 1990's, the neighborhood had shrunk to less than 3,500 residents due to stadium events and parking problems. All that changed with the decision for Atlanta to host the Olympic games in 1996. Summerhill has arguably experienced the most comprehensive redevelopment effort amongst all the neighborhoods within the Olympic Ring. Summerhill's convenient access to both I-20 and I-75 has attracted an influx of first-time homebuyers in recent years.
